Winter Newsletter 2010
As the snow finally starts to clear, we are all now looking
forward to opening again in the Spring. In the meantime, our ongoing work
continues in order to maintain the park ready for a new season. This winter we
are aiming to concentrate on activities for children around the park, with the
construction of a new Zip Wire slide designed by our friends at BeWilderwood
and a purpose built bike track through the woods around the park.
Last year was another busy and exciting one at Clippesby, with
the completion of our new Pine Lodge, improvements to the Rabbits Grove and
the addition of some pitches in the Dell for VW campers capped by the AA
Campsite of the Year award for Britain & Ireland. However, all this couldn’t
have happened without people, both visitors and staff, and we would like to
extend a very warm thank you to everyone who has visited or worked with
us over the last year. 2010 will no doubt bring its own challenges, but we look
forward to meeting them and ensuring that all our visitors are able to enjoy
their stay at Clippesby.
The Broads is a unique place, and we have plenty of great
ideas to help you explore and discover the area at your own pace. Helping
visitors to ‘Discover the Broads’ remains our aim and, with an increasing
focus on sustainability, we will continue to explore and identify hidden places
accessible on foot, by bike and afloat, to help make your stay with us enjoyable
and rewarding. Our own guide to great days out in and around the Broads
was updated and rewritten in 2009 with additional practical ideas for
days out in and around the Broads National Park. Look out for new walking
and cycling routes from Clippesby in 2010. For more information please have a
look at our website www.discoverthebroads.com
Included here are some of the highlights of 2009 at Clippesby:
ORDNANCE SURVEY OUTDOORS SHOW
Now a regular event to kickstart the season, March saw
Clippesby attend this fantastic 3 day event at the NEC in Birmingham, as
part of the Norfolk stand. As well as rubbing shoulders with the Royal Marines
Commandos, Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Nick Crane, we spoke to many people about the
special qualities of the Broads National Park. We aim to be there again
in 2010, so why not take a look at the website
www.outdoorsshowextra.co.uk and
come along to see us if you can.
HITTING THE TARGET
Newly established last year were our own highly
popular archery sessions, run in house by our qualified instructor Lee.
Our own experienced guide Chris continued to help families and groups
explore the Broads by bike, and the guided canoe trails have proved as
popular as ever.
BEER IN THE BROADS
The Autumn Beer Festival, a popular and regular
event at Clippesby, was held over two weekends on 11th – 13th and 18th – 20th
September, and was once again a great success, with a superb atmosphere,
many excellent local real ales and a fantastic performance from local band,
‘Hard Rain’ to round off the event. This year’s event is set for 10th - 12th
and 17th – 19th September, and pitches are already being reserved. Take a
look at our website for further information
www.clippesby.com/beerfestival.asp Book your pitch early to join in
the unique, family friendly atmosphere of this weekend!
IT’S AWARD TIME!
Following last year’s round of inspections, we have
maintained our coveted ‘5 stars’ from the Tourist Board, ‘5 pennants’
award from the AA, and the ‘Welcome Walkers’ and ‘Welcome
Cyclists’ awards. Together with our existing Gold award for conservation
from David Bellamy and the AA Campsite of the Year award, these
reflect the continued investment in both the park itself and innovative ideas on
how to explore the Broads National Park.
Having been fully booked well in advance through the summer
weeks last year, and with some of our camping and touring areas already almost
fully booked for 2010, we would suggest you contact us to book your favourite
pitch as early as you can. We look forward to seeing you this year.
