Clippesby's parish Church is dedicated to St. Peter. It is one of
the old, round-towered churches so typical of this area and its history can in
part be read in its stones. It is an Open Church.Built
of flint in Saxon times with Norman doorways, mediaeval brasses and a Victorian
top to the tower, it is hidden from view on the south side by tall trees but is
visible when approached from the north.
Forming
part of a Benefice with Martham, Repps-cum-Bastwick and Thurne. Services are
often shared with the other three churches.
The churchyard: is still in use and continues to be
managed in the same way it always has, being cut twice a year. Along its walls
ladder ferns and pellitory-of-the-wall flourish; snowdrops bloom in winter
followed by a springtime carpet of primroses, forget-me-nots and celandines; a
peaceful, hallowed acre.
Things to look out for when visiting:
St. Peter's has some fine stained glass windows.
Memorial brasses: There are 2 important floor brasses. At present both brasses
are away being restored.
Millennium banners: They tell our Christian story, beginning with Creation.
And there is more! Come and see! Services for September:
